CAKE FLAVOR: Chocolate Cake FILLING(S): Whipped PB Frosting and Reese's PB Cup OUTER FROSTING: Italian Meringue Buttercream DECOR: Fondant and Real Faucet Valve SIZE: 6" This was a special cake that I made for my very own dad. He is a chemical and civil engeneer who works with waste water. I originally wanted to remake my concrete cylinder cake because he had mentioned how much he liked it the first time I had made it, but I knew I had to do something a little bit more. His job is exactly what inspired the design on this cake. Not to mention his favorite candy is Reese's, which is what inspired the flavor.
At first, I wanted to make the water out of sugar but when I melted the sugar and added food coloring it cake out very dark and kind of greenish, which is NOT what I wanted. This was my fault because I added too much food coloring and I couldn't go back. So I moved onto plan B, using blue fondant. This was actually the better choice in the end because I was able to make it look like it was spilling over the side. I don't think I would have been able to achieve that with pullingar. Also, I really like the cartoonish effect the fondant made and the color contrast between the water and the "concrete" turned out perfect. |
