I made this cake for my work's Halloween luncheon. I try to use the times I voluntarily make a cake to try out different techniques and try out new skills.

The shards on this cake were pretty easy to make. I looked up how to make sugar glass shards and I was able to find a sugar melting recipe. After the sudar was melted I poored it on a bakinf sheet to harden. The best part was hitting the hardened sugar with a hammer. It was literally like breaking glass.

As for the blood, that was a different story. The recipe included food coloring, water, and corn starch. I used all the right ingredients and measurments but something was still wrong. The color was what I wanted but the consistency was so watery, I thought it would be slightly thicker so that I could control the drip. But it was getting late and I went with what I had. When I got to work, one of the ladies had made a cake with blood as well but her blood was so much thicker. So I asked her how she made it. We had the same exact ingredients but she told me I was supposed to heat it up so that the liquid would thicken. You learn something new every day...
