CAKE FLAVOR: Funfetti FILLING(S): Italian Meringue Buttercream OUTER FROSTING: Italian Meringue Buttercream DECOR: Fondant and Gum Paste SIZE: 6" I was approached by someone I knew from college and she asked if I could bake her son's 1st birthday cake. Not going to lie I was pretty honored she asked me. Its nice to know people are supporting my passion. Also, the fact that she trusted me with her son's cake means a lot... a 1st birthday is a BIG deal!
As I do with every cake order, I asked her what the theme of the party was. She said it was dinasaur themed. She also sent me a picture of the cake she wanted me to replicate. Along with the cake, she wanted two dozen stegasaurus cupcakes. I was pretty confident I would be able to complete this order. The only part I was nervous about was the dinosaur topper I had to mold. I decided to make the dinosaur our of a mixure of gumpaste and a small amount of green fondant. To my surprise, sculpting the dinosaur was not that difficult. I made each body part separately and stuck them together with edible glue. The number, the eggs, and the nameplate were even easier. For the stegasaurus spikes, I was inspired by a post on Pinterest. I took a silicone star mold and filled it with colored cany melts. Once it was dry, I popped out each star and cut off each point with a warm knife. I loved how everything turned out. All the colors and decorations were very cohesive. |
